Founded in 1984 by Puerto Rican artists and cultural leaders, the Puerto Rico.
The MAC is the only institution on the island expressly dedicated to the study, collection, preservation, exhibition and promotion of art produced in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Latin America and their diasporas since the mid-20th century.
It promotes an open vision of contemporary art in the Puerto Rican context, encouraging a constant dialogue between artists and the public, and between artistic practice, theory and criticism, through curatorial strategies that make the museum's cultural diversity, exhibitions, initiatives and historic building accessible to all audiences.
