The Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) is located in the heart of San Telmo’s historic district, in southern Buenos Aires. Situated at 328 San Juan Avenue, the area was declared the "District of the Arts" by the city government in 2011, along with La Boca and part of Barracas. MACBA is therefore positioned in a vibrant tourist area, near the Museum of Modern Art, the San Telmo Antiques Fair, and several churches and mansions from eighteenth-century Buenos Aires.
Aldo Rubino began collecting art in the late 1980s, building a collection that emphasizes local and international contemporary art, particularly geometric abstraction. MACBA envisions its collection as a dynamic, ever-evolving entity and views it as a social asset reflecting Argentine collectors' enduring appreciation for global art. Publicly exhibiting this collection reinforces Buenos Aires' cosmopolitan character, rooted in its colonial history.
