The Casa de la Moneda Museum, located in a colonial cloister at 11th Street #4-93, has housed the Banco de la República's Numismatic Collection since 1996.
In this space, where the first gold coins in the Americas were minted in 1622, the first numismatic museum opened to the public in 1961, showcasing the bank's extensive collection of banknotes and coins.
After its closure in 1985, the Casa de la Moneda Museum underwent a renovation process, both in content and design.
Throughout its rooms, the exhibition traces the history of Colombia, highlighting significant events in national life, the history of the building itself, and the processes involved in producing coins and banknotes, all placed within their historical context.
The exhibition seeks to engage visitors by creating a modern, didactic display illustrated with graphics and objects that reveal the technical processes used to mint coins and print banknotes, as well as the architectural changes the building underwent until the late 20th century.
